Located south of the Douro and in the interior of the country, this is a vast, mountainous region with granitic soils. With an extreme continental climate, it is a less publicized region, but with enormous growth potential. Varieties such as Arinto, Fonte Cal, and Malvasia Fina among the whites, and Bastardo and Marufo among the reds, give it its own identity.
