1948 – Jaguar 1,5 – Litre
When William Lyons began making motorcycles with sidecars in the twenties, in his factory located in an alley in Blackpool, England, no one could have imagined that he would become responsible for creating one of the most emblematic names in the history of automobile manufacturing.
In 1931 he established himself in Coventry, beginning the production of cars under the Jaguar brand.
The first were the sensational SS sports cars, accompanied by the SS Saloons.
The Jaguar 1.5L was launched four years before the Second World War, first with four-cylinder sidevalve engines and later with a four-cylinder overhead engine, which was considered an advancement for the time.
Less modern was the retention of the fixed front axle, as well as the drum brakes with worm gear.
Contrary to what the name suggests, the engine capacity was actually 1776cc; however, given the size of the car, the performance of this engine was extraordinary.
Combining this factor with poor aerodynamics, the result was a top speed of 112 km/h.
Despite everything, the Jaguar 1.5L was an incredibly attractive and elegant car.
It was available in four-door Saloon versions and, later, in Drophead Coupé, both five-seaters.
Most were exported to the United States, especially the exotic Drophead Coupés manufactured between 1947 and 1948.
